FOUNDATION

Choosing

Before choosing a foundation there are few questions to answer

Do I prefer a cream,liquid or powder?

What is my skin type dry, oily or combination?

  • Dry skin can look dull and reflects light badly because of its lack of oil. It gets itchy and irritated easily, and can be prone to flaky or scaly patches.
  • Oily skin's the opposite - skin looks shiny and feels greasy, and may have larger pores than normal skin. Spots can be a problem for those with oily skin, as is reducing the shiny appearance.
  • A lot of people have combination skin, where the T-zone (the T-shaped area of the face formed by the forehead, nose and chin) gets oily, but cheeks can be dry

Knowing the answers will help you choose the most suitable foundation

To help choose try on the area at the side of your hand between you wrist and thumb. This should be enough to eliminate the totally unsuitable. To find your best match you should always try on your face just above the jaw line working in with you fingers making sure the foundation matches your own skin tone and blends in leaving no unsightly lines where it blends into the neck.

Don't be afraid to try different brands and types. It pays to keep a note as you try so you can compare later

Using

Warm foundation with your fingers for more even and natural results. Apply to forehead, nose, cheeks and chin and spread from the centre of face in an outward direction.

To give a more transparent result or eliminate excess foundation, slightly dampen a sponge and blend.
